Are Dental Implants Covered By Dental Insurance

Having missing or unsightly teeth can hinder your dreams of having a beautiful smile. It only makes sense that countless people have turned to dental implants to help them with this issue. If you are considering doing the same, you might be wondering if your dental insurance will cover your implants. While coverage for dental implants isn’t common, some insurance companies will cover them at varying degrees and under specific circumstances. But, even if your insurance company doesn’t cover implants or only covers a small portion, there are financing options available to help you achieve the smile of your dreams.

Dental Insurance and Dental Implants

Unfortunately, most dental and medical insurance companies don’t cover the cost of the dental implant itself. Why? Because dental implants are still viewed as a voluntary cosmetic procedure.

However, some implant-related procedures, such as bone grafting and tissue regeneration, are covered by some dental or medical plans. In addition, some may cover it at a certain percentage if you lost teeth in an accident. Others may not cover them if you were missing the teeth when coverage took effect.

The good news is that our insurance specialists will be happy to file a pre-treatment plan with your insurance company whenever necessary.  Then, you’ll be able to find out what your insurance will or won’t cover and make financial decisions from there.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

How Do I Know If I Am a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Only two factors must be present for you to be a good candidate for dental implants:

  • Adequate quantity of bone at the time of placement
  • Compliance by patients with instructions and proper follow-up care

If these two factors are met, most patients are good candidates for dental implants. Only very few medical and dental conditions make an individual not suitable for implant surgery. If you are considering dental implants as a treatment option, your provider will thoroughly examine your mouth and review your medical and dental history. If your mouth is not ideal at this time for implants, there are options for improving your chances of being a good candidate, such as bone grafting.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

If you take good care of your implants and keep your mouth healthy, they can last indefinitely. However, you must be dedicated to taking the time for good oral hygiene, including daily brushing and flossing, and keeping routine appointments with your dentist or other dental providers. The better care you take of your dental implants, the longer they will last.
